Navigating the Courts: A Guide for Officials:

Writer: Grant HarrisGrant Harris

In the fast-paced world of competitive sport events, organization and communication are key components in making each seamless and enjoyable. Officials play a crucial role in ensuring that everything runs smoothly, from the placement of the game ball to providing essential information to participants. In this blog post, we'll explore the responsibilities of officials and offer some helpful tips to make their roles more effective.

Game Ball Custody: From Court to Tournament Central

One of the primary responsibilities of tournament officials is the management of the game ball. Until returned to tournament central at the end of the day, officials are the custodians of the game ball for their assigned court. This ensures that the event progresses without delays, and each game starts with the right equipment.

Location Tracking for Accountability

Officials should keep a close eye on the whereabouts of the game ball when it is under their responsibility. A system for tracking and reporting ensures accountability and minimizes the risk of misplacement. This simple yet crucial step contributes to the overall efficiency of the event.

Punctuality is Key: Reporting to Courts

At the start of a wave, officials are expected to report to their designated courts at least 15 minutes before the scheduled starting time. This allows for a smooth transition and ensures that warm-up sessions can commence at least 10 minutes prior to the official start time. Punctuality is not just a courtesy; it sets the tone for a well-organized and timely event.

Utilizing the SEMVOG Website for Questions

Clear communication is vital for successful events. If officials have questions or need information, the SEMVOG website is the first point of contact. The FAQ page, blog, and event pages contain a wealth of information that can effectively address most questions. This proactive approach empowers officials to find answers swiftly, contributing to a streamlined event.

President's Day Challenge: T-Shirt Size Information

For officials working the President's Day Challenge, we have the additional task of collecting t-shirt size information. A dedicated webpage form is provided for this purpose. Officials are encouraged to complete this form promptly if they haven't already, ensuring that logistical details, such as t-shirt sizes, are accurately recorded for the event. Conclusion:

Volleyball officials play a pivotal role in the success of our events. By diligently managing responsibilities, tracking game balls, being punctual, and utilizing available resources, officials contribute to an organized and enjoyable experience for participants and spectators alike. The SEMVOG website serves as a valuable tool for information, making communication more efficient and effective. With these guidelines in mind, officials can navigate their roles with confidence, ensuring the smooth flow of tournaments from start to finish.

Thanks for all you do for the sport! GO LIONS!!
