This is a reminder that volleyball officials are not responsible for ejecting spectators or parents from a match site.
If a spectator’s behavior becomes disruptive, abusive, or unsportsmanlike, the proper protocol is:
Stop play and notify the site director, event staff, or school administrator immediately.
Document the behavior and clearly identify the individual causing the issue.
Allow event management to address and resolve the situation, including any removal from the venue if necessary.
Resume play only once the situation has been properly handled and the environment is safe to continue.
Officials should not:
• Engage in arguments with spectators
• Leave the court to remove a parent or fan
• Attempt to physically or personally enforce ejections
Your responsibility is to manage the match — not the crowd.
This protocol protects:
✔ the integrity of the match
✔ your personal safety
✔ the authority of event administration
✔ the professionalism of the officiating crew
If you ever feel unsafe, suspend play and involve tournament staff immediately. Use a member of your work team as a liaison.
Thank you for helping maintain a professional and controlled playing environment for our athletes.
